What is Agneepath scheme
The term “tour of duty” has lately gained popularity in the Indian armed forces. The Indian government has recently created the Agneepath Recruitment Program to give it a boost. Anyone who wishes to join the Indian armed forces for their career growth would be able to do so through this new entry point and opportunity. It doesn’t matter if it’s the Indian Army, the Indian Navy, or the Indian Air Force. The Agneepath Military Bharti Initiative is a nationwide government programme that is available to all Indian citizens.
It will allow Indian youth who desire to join the Indian armed services to do so through this new entrance point and opportunity. Whether it’s the Indian Army, the Indian Navy, or the Indian Air Force, The Agneepath Army Bharti Scheme is a national government programme open to all Indian citizens. One can participate in the combat forces through Agnipath, and roughly 45,000 to 50,000 troops will be recruited each year for a four-year military term.
The primary goal of the national government is to implement the Indian Army Agneepath Entry Scheme in order to train youngsters and reduce retirement and pension costs. The Indian government devised this strategy to boost our security forces. Selected individuals would be professionally trained before being hired in crucial locations such as the Jammu and Kashmir border.
One of the most essential aspects of this recruiting to note is that there would be no admission test for the children. Following selection, candidates will go through six months of training before being inducted for three and a half years in order to prepare them for service in the armed forces as professionals.
Those who are chosen for this recruiting procedure will be referred to as “Agniveers.” As previously agreed, ‘Agniveers’ would get a competitive salary and an early retirement package after four years of service. It should be noted that this chance is only available to troops below the level of officer, that is, those who do not enter the forces as commissioned officers.

Every year, a huge number of applicants enrol in Indian Army recruitment and desire to be a member of the famous Indian armed forces. However, for various reasons, there are still many candidates who are unable to make it through. As a result, this entry represents a perfect chance for them to attain their aim, as it provides another entry to make a spot for them.
Even after you have completed four years of service, there is a chance that you will be retained if your performance is acceptable enough to keep you there after your tour of duty is completed. Under the proposal, soldiers will serve for four years, but 25% of the top professionals will be re-inducted as permanent troops. Soldiers who are discharged will also be aided in finding civilian occupations after finishing their four-year tenure. According to reports, the government is also in talks with corporations regarding future career options for the ‘Agniveers’ when their tenure is over.
Vacancy and salary
During their four years of service, soldiers will receive a starting salary of Rs 30,000 along with additional benefits that will increase to Rs 40,000 by the end of the four-year service. The annual package that the soldiers will receive under this scheme will be 4.76 lakh rupees for the first year and it will rise to 6.92 lakhs in the fourth and final year of the period.
Additionally, throughout these service years, 30% of their pay will be used as part of the Seva Nidhi program, and the government will donate the same amount on a monthly basis in addition to interest. They will receive the benefits of the Seva Nidhi package, which includes a lump sum payment of Rs. 11.71 lakh that is tax-free, after serving the minimum four years of service.
Additionally, there is a provision for a life insurance policy of Rs 48 lakh for the next four years, and in the event of death, Rs 1 crore will be handed to the family members, along with salary for the unexpired period.

Pros

- The candidates between the lowest age requirement of 17.5 and the maximum age requirement of 23 will have a fantastic chance.
- Agniveer, a young man who was enlisted for four years of duty, would have a successful career after leaving the military.
- Agniveers’ personal development may also benefit from the scheme. They will be exposed to the military’s strict way of life.
Cons
- Since the candidates will once more be without a job after the four years of service, there is no employment security.
- Only those between the ages of 17.5 and 23 are being recruited.
- Agniveers will exercise caution, and the majority of them will look for a second job.
- The candidate will not receive any additional or fundamental perks, unlike other government positions.
- It will be unjust to the soldiers’ future in several ways if 75% of them are released from duty after serving their four-year term.
- There is no pilot project to test the proposal.
Conclusion
The Agneepath Scheme, which Rajnath Singh, the defence minister, unveiled on June 14, 2022 in the presence of the three service chiefs, intends to transform the Indian armed forces into a much younger, leaner combat force. Under its provisions, the government would enlist Indian teenagers between the ages of 17 and 21 into the armed services, where they would get six months of training before serving for 3.5 years.
