Cancel the Board Exams amidst the rising cases of coronavirus in 2021

Cancel the Board Exams

In view of the recent surge in the cases of coronavirus, a lot of people are demanding to cancel the board exams of class 10th and 12th. Students and parents are raising their concerns over social media to cancel the board exams. Interestingly, they are also getting support from actors, politicians and many prominent personalities in the matter.

Cancel the Board Exams

The gravity of the demand to cancel the board exams could be understood from the fact that in spite of the statement of the CBSE that it will take utmost care of the health of all the stakeholders while conducting the exams, people are still demanding to cancel the board exams.

Education – The least Important Aspect of the Society

Now, it’s up to CBSE and Ministry of Education to take a call on the matter but one can not deny the fact that the most heavily impacted profession during this covid situation is the education. In fact, reality is that the education has become the least important aspect of the community despite knowing that education is the most powerful weapon to fight with the evils of the society.

Now, important is to know that why I am saying so? Interestingly, giving it a thought is also not as simple as we are understanding. Actually, the whole problem lies in the dilution of the purpose. So, when the core purpose of something gets diluted, there is no one interested in carrying it forward.

Let me make it clearer. So, the problem is not with the cancelation of exams, the problem is with the mindset of the society. Simple fact is when one can attend election rallies, Kumbh mela, go to market, do everything else with following of so-called safety precautions then why can’t one go to school, college or coaching to study and give exams with these so-called safety precautions. What is the harm in that?? I have even tried to bring the same issue through one of my videos. Check out the same here

The worst situation is people are happy with the cancelation of exams. Even while going through the YouTube, I had found some videos where people are telling how to cancel the board exams and the community is even supporting them. What Kind of society we are going to build through such a mentality, I can’t imagine?

Understanding the Problem Deeper

Now, coming to the mindset of the society with the dilution of the purpose, so the problem starts from the day from when we have misunderstood the purpose of education as only the way to earn money. Although, I agree that this is one of the outcomes but cannot be the complete purpose.

So, once we have started to compare it with the amount of money, one is going to earn at the end of their academic degrees, the problem started because we have never understood money simply as a tool to make a happy and healthy living. We have always understood money as a way to live a lavish lifestyle and wealthier living.

Although, again I agree that there is no harm in that. But harm is in the comparison to have same lavish lifestyle and materialistic ambitions for you, which someone else is living, without even understanding the process they have gone through to have that kind of lifestyle. This comparison has even increased when people have started to share on social media with the content like how to be wealthier overnight. For creators, this became the great way to gain quick popularity but for the followers it became their ambition and nightmare to achieve the same overnight.

So, coming back to the topic, everyone has started to dream for that wealthy and lavish lifestyle at the end of their formal education. More, this has started the process to compare the courses with the kind of placements and earning opportunities, they are able to provide without even understanding the fact that one is really worthy of opting and finishing a particular course or not.

From here we all know that the rat race has arrived in the education. So, the courses which were able to provide one the high earning opportunities, at particular moment, started to trend and other courses has been dumped somewhere else. At this moment, one also needs to understand that opportunists came in the market to sell dreams of losing high end opportunity and grabbed the same opportunity smartly for themselves to earn huge money.

Now, they have started to sell the courses which were on peak at the moment. So, if a situation arises that any of course is not able to deliver the kind of results they wish for, they dropped that and pick another one which were on peak at the moment because for them, it was simply a business and they only know the mathematics of profit and loss. So, don’t get surprised and make noise when one opportunist is buying another for high price because this is what we have allowed them to do so.

https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/tech/startups/byjus-signs-billion-dollar-deal-to-acquire-aakash-educational-services/articleshow/80236711.cms?from=mdr

In simple way, they are selling what we are demanding.

In more simple way, they are selling us the dream for which we are demanding.

Interestingly, no one understands another super simple fact that selling dreams is easy rather than selling the reality.

Now, another problem with the society is that despite knowing that we are buying dreams, we expect to have it as reality and when reality becomes different from the dreams, what happens?

We all know this; we lose the hope & start wandering to purchase another dream. Here comes another opportunist to sell another dream and cycle repeats.

Interestingly, when this difference between dream and reality increases heavily, we start blaming the education rather than accepting the fact that we have not made the required efforts in turning that dream in to reality.

And that’s how we have kept the education at the lowest priority because it is not giving us the kind of output we are wishing for.

I hope now you got the idea, why people are not concerned about the conduction of exams and policymakers are also not interested in giving it a weightage on practical ground because the education is no one’s priority. Although, theoretically everyone is interested in encashing the opportunity with the arrival of New Education Policy.

These are the words, which I have written with a deep sense from my heart because being in academics for the true sense of education, it hurts a lot when purpose gets diluted.

If you understood the words and feel them worthy to share with the community, please share with the community through the social media.

Have a great day ahead.

Thanks

  1. It is really a great blog, and of course the root of the problem starts from the mindset. They are selling what we are demanding.

But this is the high-time, we really need some changes in the traditional way of examination and education.

    1. Glad that you are able to understand the real cause behind this diminishing level of education.

Further, there is always a good time to make reforms only thing is one must be willing to make and adopt those reforms that’s where most of us usually fail. So, let’s hope for the better and keep putting efforts atleast at our individual level to bring out these reforms.
